Americans partly know Japan only through all of the weird things we hear about it, and one of the bizarre stories to come from Japan in recent years is that they have square watermelons!
But is this true? Are Japanese watermelons square?
Yes, some of them are!
While no watermelon naturally grows square, some Japanese farmers did figure out a way to insert the fruit into a glass box while it’s still growing, thus making it conform to the square shape of the box.
This is not a common practice, and is more of a novelty than anything, but it’s still really cool to see!
