Why Are Peaches Fuzzy?

Although the reason for peaches having a fuzzy skin is not definitely known, it is thought that it is so they can effectively protect themselves against threats like insects and certain diseases. The fuzz on their outer skin is also thought to prevent dehydration and “sunburn”, which can occur even in peaches.

While the reason for their fuzzy skin may not be altogether known, this is the closest conclusion that has been gathered.

Over time, animals, humans, and even plants develop evolutionary defense mechanisms which are meant to help them survive against disease as well as other predators (in this case different types of insects).
