Is Salmon Skin Edible?

If you’re like most people, you don’t even think of fish as having skin, let alone whether or not it’s edible!

Despite this, salmon skin is indeed very edible. However, the scales are not. For this reason, it’s important to make sure that any salmon you are preparing is thoroughly de-scaled before cooking. The scales aren’t deadly, but your body can’t really digest them and it can cause problems.

So how do you eat the skin of a salmon? Well, just like the skin of anything else, such as poultry.

It’s actually very tasty if it’s grilled up nice and crispy, as opposed to boiled or steamed.

Salmon skins are often prepared and eaten separately from the rest of the fish, although this is not entirely necessary. You can really eat it any way you’d like.

Not only can you eat salmon skin, but it’s actually very good for you. Salmon skin is full of healthy omega-3 acids.
