Because broccoli is a part of the cabbage family called “Brassicacaeaâ€, it is essentially related to the radish and therefore referred to as a Dicot plant. It is technically classified as a Brassica oleracea which is its species from the Italica group.
Broccoli has a number of defining characteristics which is why it is put into this type of classification, such as its fleshy flower heads and the green color which it is commonly identified by.
There are a number of leaves that surround the flower head of this vegetable and it very closely resembles cauliflower in a number of ways.
