Tomatoes are what is commonly referred to as “negative calorie foods†which are basically foods that contain less calories than the body needs to digest them. There are a number of other foods which can be considered negative calorie foods as well, including cucumbers, grapefruit, papayas, turnips, and many more.
There is still somewhat of a debate going on with regards to whether or not there is actually such a thing as negative calories, though most dieticians and nutritionists believe that it is a relatively sound theory. Those who are on a diet should eat more than just negative calorie foods, because it is important to have a balanced diet which consists of many different types of foods, including those with negative calories.
