Well, they mainly eat plant materials, which includes seeds, buds and fruits. A little finch flying around an orchard would take in a regular diet of cherries, blackberries, figs, peaches, pears, plums, and yes, even strawberries.
That being said, be sure to introduce any new food to your bird in small quantities, along with whatever they’ve already been eating. Be sure to monitor them to make sure new foods sit right and promotes good digestion. And don’t just stop with strawberries. Finches are big fans of rice grains, as well as avocados. You can even try giving them beans. But one of the most popular finch birdy treats seems to be a staple in everyone’s house – the grape.
Avacado should not be fed to finches as it is extremely toxic to them.
