There are many fruits and vegetables that look similar to one another, and others that are very closely related to one another. This similarity between fruits and vegetables can lead to some confusion as to whether or not two foods are actually the same thing.
So what about blackberries and raspberries? Are blackberries and raspberries the same?
No, they are actually different fruits! However, there are many similarities between them.
Both raspberries and blackberries are what is known as bramble fruits, or aggregate fruits. This means that rather than being a single berry, they are actually comprised of 100 or so smaller pieces called drupelets.
On the genetic level, raspberries and blackberries both belong to the same genus, known as Rubus. They also belong to the same biological family, Rosaceae.
