Many fruits and vegetables are actually more closely related than a lot of people think, and there are a few reasons why people might think that pears and apples are actually related.

There is actually some truth to this, as both pears and apples belong to rose family of flowering plants, also known as Rosaceae. Apricots, cherries, peaches, and many other fruits belong to this family as well.

Something that confuses a lot of people is the fact that the Asian pear is sometimes referred to as the “apple pear”, and this causes some to believe that it is a cross between apples and pears. This is is actually not true, and the name apple pear comes only from the appearance of the fruit.
