Blueberries are actually one of the few fruits which are in fact native to North America and they are party of the Vaccinium genus. For a number of centuries now, blueberries have been gathered in forests as well as bogs by the Native Americans, eaten fresh and preserved through a number of methods.
The end of the blossom which forms on the berry is in the shape of a five-pointed star and it was the center of many myths, including one that involved star berries which were sent by a great spirit to help relieve children’s hunger during times of great famine.
