Are Bananas High In Carbs?

If you are on any sort of low carb diet, you may have heard the advice that you should generally avoid fruits, as they tend to be high in carbohydrates.

Of course fruits are very healthy for you, but some have more to offer than others when it comes to certain nutritional values.

So what about bananas? Are bananas high in carbohydrates?

Yes, compared to other fruits bananas will generally have a higher amount of carbs. The average banana has about 17.5 grams of carbs, compared to the mere 6 grams found in the average tangerine. That number assumes that you only eat the “flesh” of the banana, and if you eat the skin (yes, some people do!) then you’re up to a whopping 39 grams of carbs for one banana!

Bananas also have high sugar content, which is something to be aware of if you are diabetic.
