When most people eat a banana, they remove the outer skin (the peel) and discard it.
But do you have to do that, or can you eat them as well? Are banana peels edible?
Yes, banana peels are edible!
In fact, most other primates will always eat the peel as well as the flesh of a banana.
Not only that, but many people outside of western culture eat banana peels, and it is even cooked into many dishes. Some East-Indian dishes even use banana peels as the main ingredient!
However, one thing to keep in mind is that the banana should be washed before you attempt to eat the peel. Commercially available bananas are often sprayed with pesticides, and should be washed just like any other fruit or vegetable before consumption.
